SUMMARY:The Historic Landscape of Castletown House
DESCRIPTION:An illustrated talk by Finola O’Kane\, landscape historian\, architect and Professor at the School of Architecture\, Planning and Environmental Policy\, University College Dublin \nThis illustrated lecture will explore the historic character of the demesne landscape of Castletown House in Celbridge\, Co. Kildare\, touching on its outstanding universal value for all Irish people. It will discuss some of the key people involved in its creation\, many of them women. It will outline its wonderful water landscape of cascades\, ponds\, rivulets and streams leading to the Liffey and its folly landscape of cottages\, lodges and other garden buildings (surviving and lost). It will touch upon its extraordinary arboriculture heritage and the conservation of its wonderful avenues\, clumps\, specimen trees and forêt ornée. \nFinola O’Kane is a landscape historian\, architect\, and Professor at the School of Architecture\, Planning and Environmental Policy\, University College Dublin. Her books include Landscape Design in Eighteenth-Century Ireland: Mixing Foreign Trees with the Natives (Cork\, 2004)\, Ireland and thePicturesque: Design\, Landscape Painting\, and Tourism\, 1700–1840 (PMC/Yale\, 2013) and the recent Landscape Design and Revolution in Ireland and the United States 1688-1815\, (PMC/Yale\, June\, 2023). \nProfessor O’Kane has also published widely on eighteenth-century Dublin\, Irish urban and suburban history\, and plantation landscapes\, with the co-edited volume Ireland\, Slavery and the Caribbean: Interdisciplinary Perspectives published in 2023 by Manchester University Press. \nElected a member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2017\, in 2024 she was appointed one of six Senior Fellows at Dumbarton Oaks by the Trustees of Harvard University for 2024-2027 and is currently also a Visiting Fellow at the School of History and Archives\, TCD. \nThe 2026 talks’ series at Castletown House is dedicated to the memory of the late Jeanne Meldon and is presented by the Office of Public Works (OPW) in association with The Castletown Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:Ida Pelliccioli was born in Bergamo\, Italy. She studied at the Nice Conservatoire de Région and at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. Having participated in numerous master classes and receiving a double master diploma at the Sorbonne University\, Paris\, Ida chose to avoid the international competition circuit. \nShe has performed throughout Europe and Canada\, making her debut in Serbia\, Luxembourg\, Ireland and Romania. In 2023\, she will perform in Switzerland and will also perform for the first time in South Africa. She is already booked for a performance in Lithuania in 2024. \nIda has a great interest in contemporary music and will premiere works from Scarlatti\, Mozart and Blasco de Nebra\, sometimes called ‘The Spanish Scarlatti’.Ida has appeared on screen\, playing the role of a pianist for the American TV Series ‘Find me in Paris‘ (2017/2018) and the French series ‘Munch‘ (2018). In 2019\, she was cast to double the role of the pianist in the short movie\, ‘Quand on ne sait pas voler’\, directed by Thomas Keumurian.

Cleverly scripted and performed by Richard\, the show has been staged all over Ireland\, parts of England\, and Canada. \nP.J. Mulpeter\, now sixty-five\, hails from somewhere in the midlands. He begins his final working day as a buliders’ labourer\, having ‘soldiered’ for fifty years under the same construction firm\, working under three generations of the same family. \nIn a reflective mood\, he casts a backward glance at the highs and lows of his ‘career’ on the pick and shovel. We meet him in situations from the school classroom\, to digging foundations\, to the Marquee Dances\, to encounters with his boss\, ‘Oul Murray’ and his close associate ‘Larry the Lick’ himself. \nThis is a fun show not to be missed!

SUMMARY:Finghin Collins in Recital
DESCRIPTION:One of Ireland’s most successful musicians\, Finghin Collins studied piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music with John O’Conor and at the Geneva Conservatoire with Dominique Merlet. Winner of the RTÉ Musician of the Future Competition in 1994 and the Classical Category at the National Entertainment Awards in Ireland in 1998\, he went on to take first prize at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland in 1999. Since then he has continued to enjoy a flourishing international career that takes him all over Europe and the United States\, as well to the Far East and Australia\, performing with many of the world’s finest orchestras and conductors. \nCollins has just been appointed Artistic Director of the prestigious Dublin International Piano Competition and will also chair the jury of the Clara Haskil Piano Competition in Switzerland in 2023. \nOver the past two decades Collins has developed a close relationship with Claves Records in Switzerland\, who have released recordings of music by Schumann\, Stanford\, Mozart and Chopin. \nFinghin Collins is also Artistic Director of Music for Galway since 2013.\nWe look forward to his solo performance at Castletown when he will perform works by Haydn\, Mozart\, Schumann & Chopin.

DESCRIPTION:Danielle Rogan is a Northern Irish flutist currently based in London. Danielle will be accompanied by Frasier Hickland. She completed her Masters in Music Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music\, where she studied with William Dowdall and Patricia Morris. She has also had masterclasses with renowned flute players including Sir James Galway\, William Bennett\, Michael Cox and Lorna McGhee\, and studied at festivals in Scotland\, Sweden\, Italy and Switzerland. As a freelance musician\, Danielle has worked with the London Concert Orchestra\, Mozart Symphony Orchestra\, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland\, RTÉ Concert Orchestra\, Full Tone Orchestra and Wexford Festival Opera. \nShe has performed in venues throughout the world including Berlin Konzerthaus\, Carnegie Hall New York\, Cadogan Hall London and National Concert Hall Dublin. She has also played in over 40 musical theatre productions\, doubling on saxophone and clarinet. As a soloist she has performed at many prestigious events\, including an Awards Ceremony in the House of Lords\, Westminster. \nDanielle will perform exciting works by Anne Boyd\, Reinecke\, Ian Clarke\, Mike Mower and Cecile Chainade

DESCRIPTION:Lucy is a Dublin born\, London based soprano. \nFor the past 10 years she has been carving out a stage career in London. Her work in this time has included television (BBC Proms in The Park\, BBC’s The Voice UK); radio (BBC Radio 2 Friday Night is Music Night); West-End (Les Miserables); International Touring (The Sound of Music\, Evita ); and Recording (Now That’s What I Call Music (Classical Edition)\, solo album ‘Debut’) – and much more.\nDuring the pandemic – with gracious support from Fingal Arts – Lucy undertook an Intensive Singing Course under long time friend\, mentor and teacher Kathryn Smith (Leinster School of Music and Drama). Lucy has been training\, steadily\, with Kathryn for more than a decade. This course allowed invaluable space and time to build on technique and repertoire. \nThis marks Lucy’s recital debut. The program will include a varied range of music including Opera\, Operetta\, Oratorio and Song.(Liszt; Fauré; Mozart; Handel; Dvorák; Strauss; Lehár; Verdi and more)

He studied under Emmanuel Lawler at the TUD Conservatoire.\nSeán is an established theatre maker and performer\, blending his training as a singer with storytelling.\nHe has produced a trilogy of autobiographical work with his second show\, ‘Nine Weeks’\, receiving five stars from the Irish Times.\nAfter his most recent sell-out show on the main stage at Smock Alley Theatre in October 2022\, he is delighted to be performing at Castletown House with accompanist Thomas Kehoe.\nSeán will be performing a selection of arias from the Romantic era.

To mark this special occasion\, join pianist Brendan Kennedy as he performs works from Rachmaninov’s early and late period (and everywhere in between!). \nAs listeners\, one tends to associate a nostalgic quality with Rachmaninov’s music and of course who could fail to mention the majestic bell sounds that one finds throughout his output. He was an absolute craftsman in contrapuntal writing for the piano and he was daring in his harmonic exploration.

DESCRIPTION:Irish Mezzo Soprano Gina Oberoi Engela is an experienced concert and opera performer. \nPrevious engagements include world premiers of Dan Forest’s Jubilate Deo and Irish Composer Martin O’Leary’s Psalmus. Gina was a company artist with Cork Opera and is a regular artist with Limerick Opera Festival. She has performed Mahler Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen and other works for Mezzo soprano multiple times and continues to work with several prominent choral societies both in Ireland and UK. \nGina completed her Bachelors and Masters in vocal performance at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.
