Accessibility at Castletown

Castletown House recognises the importance of making access available for all.

Admission is free for people with disabilities and their accompanying carer to all OPW properties.

The ground floor rooms at Castletown are fully accessible but other floors of Castletown are not suitable for people with restricted mobility.

There are designated parking spaces also available on the West side of the house. These are close to the Courtyard Café in the Kitchen Wing, which is also fully accessible. Accessible toilet facilities are available in this area. The forecourt of the house is flat compacted gravel.

The lime avenue entrance to Castletown from Celbridge village to the house and grounds has a flat compacted gravel surface.

Our parklands are open all year round and free to visit. The restored historic pathways from the front of the house to the river Liffey are wheelchair accessible. They are mostly on the level with one area of steep incline and some sections of uneven surface.

There are various waterways in the parklands where particular care is needed.

Our Biodiversity Garden is also fully accessible.

Guide dogs and other registered special assistance dogs welcome.

The opening of OPW sites can be weather dependent. To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all, access may be subject to change at short notice. Every attempt will be made to announce these closures ahead of time but if you are in any doubt, please check with us for our Open/Close Status.
